MissingMoney.com: is it legit, and is it enough?
MissingMoney.com is an official website of NAUPA, the state unclaimed property administrators' association: it searches all states at once and, when there is a match, links you to that state's official program.1 It is not complete: NAUPA says most states take part,2 and each state also keeps its own search site.3

What MissingMoney.com is
MissingMoney.com is a free search across the databases of the state programs that participate.2 NAUPA, the association of those programs, calls it an official website of NAUPA and says that when there is a match in any state, the site links to that state’s official program.1 NAUPA’s members are the unclaimed property programs of all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.4
Is it free?
The 2022 relaunch announcement says it has no advertisements and no fee to search.3 When there is a match, it links you to the state’s official program,1 and claiming through that program is free.5
Why it is not enough on its own
- Not every state takes part. NAUPA says “Most states participate”.2 At the 2022 relaunch it listed 48 departments.3
- Each state keeps its own search site,3 and claims go through the official program of the state holding the property.5
- Some state pages say whether they participate. Where a state confirms it, its page on this site says so; see the list of states.
Searching state sites as well
The multi-state checklist lists the official search of each state you tick. How to search well covers which names and states to try, the claim guide explains what to do with a match, and the scam guide explains how to tell a real notice from a fake.
