About this site

USA Unclaimed Property is an independent guide to the unclaimed property programs of US states, the District of Columbia and the territories. We send you to the official search and explain how its claim works.

What we do

Each state keeps its own list of unclaimed property and its own rules for claiming it. The official sites are where you search and claim, but each one covers a single state, uses its own vocabulary and is often hard to compare. We read the official sources of each program, the statutes and the agencies' own pages, and turn them into one clear page per state, with the official search link first and every fact linked to its source.

What a state page gives you

  • The official search link, at the top, with the cost, phone number, processing time and deadline next to it.
  • The claim itself: the program's own steps, the documents it asks for in each situation, how it pays and how long it takes.
  • The rules behind it: how long property waits before it reaches the state, what a finder may legally charge, and what the state itself warns about.
  • Ways to reach the office: phone lines, email, mailing address and hours.
  • For businesses: report due dates, owner notice rules, file formats and penalties.
  • The sources: every footnote leads to the official document, with the exact words we relied on.

Who it is for

What we never do

  • We are not a government site and not affiliated with any agency or with the state administrators' association.
  • We never ask for your name, Social Security number or any personal data, and we have no name search of our own. Only the official programs hold owner records.
  • We never charge and never sell anything, and the site shows no ads.
  • We use no advertising or social media trackers. The one script loaded from outside this site is Umami, analytics hosted by the site's publisher, which counts visits in aggregate without cookies; the privacy policy lists what it records.
  • We never estimate. A value we cannot confirm from an official source is not shown as a fact.
  • We do not give legal or tax advice. We explain what the official sources say; for your own case, ask the program or a professional.

How it is made

Every value is taken from an official source and recorded with the exact sentence it comes from. A separate second check then reopens each source and compares it before a state page is published. How we check facts explains the process, and sources lists the official documents by state and agency. The company that publishes the site is identified in the privacy policy.

What this site does not cover

We do not hold property, search for it on your behalf, or file claims. Property held by federal agencies is outside the state programs; other official places to check lists those searches.
